Dan Miller was born in Brighton in 1980 and completed his BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting at The Glasgow School of Art in 2002. During his time at GSA he also studied at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee, a period that proved integral in the development of both his practice and underlying interest in European history.
In 2004 Miller participated in the WASPS - Bonhoga Gallery Residency in Düsseldorf (In association with Kulturamt Düsseldorf, Goethe Institut Glasgow, WASPS Artists Studios Glasgow and the Shetland Arts Trust). The residency culminated in Horatii/Curatii, Miller’s first international solo show at Atelier Am Eck.
Since graduating from the GSA, Miller has continued to show widely in the U.K and mainland Europe, developing close ties with a network of artist-led groups in Denmark, Sweden and Germany.
Group shows have included: Apocalypse Now and Again at The Project Room Glasgow, Spacemakers in association with Transmission Gallery at Lothringer Dreizehn Munich (2004), Extension with Market Gallery - Glasgow Art Fair 2004, A is to B as B is to C with Lowsalt Gallery, Supermarket Art Fair 2007 with Lowsalt Gallery at the Konstnarshuset in Stockholm, The Glasgow Project at Reinraum Düsseldorf (2007) and more recently Leger Trager at the Grace & Clark Fyfe Gallery (GSA 2009) as well as Over the Bridge with DUNK! (Copenhagen) at Cirkulations Centralen in Malmø (2009).
In 2008 Miller was awarded a Creative and Professional Development Grant from the Scottish Arts Council and co-financial funding from the Kunstrådet - Danish Arts Council, which led to Totes Meer, Miller’s first solo show in Denmark.
Other recent exhibitions include DUNK! at the Alt_Cph 09 (Alternative Copenhagen Art Fair), September 2009, with Alex Dordoy and Tony Swain at the Southside Gallery (Glasgow, October 2009. Forthcoming projects include Mark Mueller Galerie, Zurich with Neil Clements and Tom Varley.
