Born in New Zealand in 1977, Kate Davis studied at Glasgow School of Art where she is now a part-time lecturer in the Painting and Printmaking Department and a former Transmission Gallery, Glasgow, committee member. Working across a range of media Davis has had several international solo shows, including Kunsthalle Basel (2006), Art Now, Tate Britain (2007), Galerie Kamm, Berlin (2007) and a solo statement at Art Basel 2007 with Sorcha Dallas. Selected group exhibitions include: ‘If I can’t dance I don’t want to be part of your revolution’ (De Appel, Amsterdam); ‘Poetical Political’ (Simon Lee, London); ‘Like Leaves’ (Tanya Bonakdar, New York), and ‘The Object is the Mirror (Part II)’ (Wilkinson, London). In 2008 she was awarded the SAC Visual Arts Residency at Cove Park, Argyll and Bute, Scotland where she organised the event ‘A Subjective Objective’ and was a guest artist at The Banff Centre, Alberta, Canada. She is currently in the Hayward Touring Exhibition ‘The End of the Line: Attitudes in Drawing’. Forthcoming projects include ‘ The Long Loch: How Do We Go On From Here?” a two-person project with Faith Wilding at The CCA, Glasgow, commissioned for Glasgow International 2010, and ‘2 or 3 things I know about her’ with Jimmy Robert at FOUR, Dublin. She will be artist in residence at Camden Arts Centre, London early 2010 and alongside exhibitions, regularly works on published artists’ books.
