TRANSMISSION / Vasari’s ‘Lives of the Artists’
Wednesday 14th March, 6 - 7.30pm
Yudowitz Lecture theatre
Wolfson Medical Theatre, University of Glasgow

Panel discussion with Dr Evelyn Welch, Fiona Jardine and Jan Verwoert,

A panel discussion as part of Transmission’s project for GI 2012, Six Artworks for Your Interpretation. The discussion will take Varsari’s, ‘The Lives of the Artists’ as the starting point to examine the ways in which we assign ‘value’ to contemporary art.

Giorgio Vasari’s, “The Lives of the Artists’ is an encyclopedic overview of the lives of Renaissance artists, retrospectively posited as one of the founding texts of art history. The way artworks were interpreted and evaluated changed dramatically after its publication giving rise to international and institutional networks that still function as a means of distributing and validating artworks.

Transmission are also hosting a bespoke tour, discussion and Q&A at Glasgow Museums Resource Centre on Tuesday 28th February.
